(OLNEY) in major league baseball : the Cardinals, Cubs, & White Sox were all idle yesterday as all three teams begin three game series tonight - the Cardinals begin a three game series in Philadelphia, the Cubs are back at Wrigley to host the Reds, and the White Sox will play the Royals in Kansas City

(NEWTON) on the local schedules for tonight in American Legion Baseball : Newton Post #20 will play the Effingham Senior Babe Ruth team at Paul Smith Field in Effingham - those needing a ride should meet at Newton Community High School this afternoon at 5:30 : the Olney Post #30 team returns to action tonight, hosting the South Central team at the West Richland High School ball diamond in Noble

(NEWTON) registration continues for the Sunrise Youth Fall Soccer Program - registration forms are available at the Sunrise Youth Center & Community Building in Newton - the fall soccer program is for Jasper County children entering grades K-8 this fall - the action begins at the end of August

(OLNEY) signups for the 2008 Olney Junior Pro Football League will be held Saturday, July 26th, at the ERES football field shed - signup for 7th & 8th grade players from 4:00 til 5:30, followed by signup for 5th & 6th graders from 5:30 til 7:00 - the $40 fee is due at signup - it's open to any boy or girl in 5th thru 8th grades in the Richland County area - for more details, call Coach John Reed at 618-240-1304

(OLNEY) the OCC Lady Blue Knights Softball team will have two summer camps starting this Friday, July 11th, & continuing next Friday, July 18th - a morning skills camp & an afternoon pitching camp each day - for more, call Coach Nick Short, or go online www.ladyblueknights.com/softball

(NEWTON) the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park in Newton will host its 2nd annual Girls Softball Summer Fun Tournament coming up this weekend, July 11th, 12th, & 13th - over 18 teams from Illinois, Missouri, & Indiana, with three different age groups competing with local teams - the event is free with all concession proceeds to benefit the Boys & Girls Park - parking will be limited

(OLNEY) the OCC Baseball team will host a total skills baseball camp for those age 6 to 18 coming up today, tomorrow, & Thursday - that's from 9:00 til 12 noon each morning at Dennis Conley Field at OCC - the cost is $100 and pre-registration is required by contacting Coach Dennis Conley

(OLNEY) the Olney Tiger Soccer program cancelled yesterday's first day of a five-day-long soccer camp at Ed Webber Field at OCC - the camp for boys & girls will start today & continue thru next Monday, the 14th - that's from 9:30 until 11:00 for grades 3-5 and from 11:00 til 12:30 for grades 6-8 - the cost is $25 per player - for more, call Coach Mike Groves (843-5378)
