(Orlando, FL) -- A week after being relocated from Seattle, Oklahoma City's newest NBA team began summer league play in Orlando. Oklahoma City lost the exhibition match to the Indiana Pacers, 95-78.
>>Veteran Forward Recchi To Join Lightning
(Tampa, FL) -- The Tampa Bay Lightning have reportedly signed veteran Mark Recchi to a one-year contract. According to a report on the "Tampa Bay Online" website, the 40-year-old forward will join the Lightning after splitting time with Pittsburgh and Atlanta last season.
>>Red Wings, Blackhawks To Meet In Winter Classic
(Detroit, MI) -- The "Minneapolis Star-Tribune" reports that the Red Wings and Blackhawks will square off in the second-annual NHL Winter Classic. According to the paper, the teams will square off at Wrigley Field. The Penguins and Sabres met in the first Winter Classic at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo this past season.
>>Mike Brey Gets Extension From Irish
(South Bend, IN) -- Notre Dame and men's head basketball coach Mike Brey agreed on a two-year extension that will keep him at the helm through the 2014-15 season. Brey is 167-and-86 with five NCAA Tournament appearances in his eight seasons leading the Irish.
>>Torres Drops 100-Meter Freestyle From Olympic Program
(Omaha, NE) -- Dara Torres has decided to drop the 100-meter freestyle from her Olympic schedule. The 41-year-old Torres will race in the 50-meter freestyle and the 400-meter freestyle relay in Beijing next month.
>>Five Confirmed For Home Run Derby
(Undated) -- Chase Utley, the major league leader in home runs, is one of the five confirmed participants for this year's Home Run Derby. Josh Hamilton, Dan Uggla, Lance Berkman and Grady Sizemore are the other four confirmed participants. Three more players will complete the field for the competition.
>>Cards Open Trip In Philly
(Philadelphia, PA) -- Joel Pineiro and Cole Hamels are the scheduled starting pitchers in Philadelphia tonight where the Cardinals open a six-game road trip. The Cards are coming off losing two-of-three games to the Cubs at Busch Stadium over the weekend, while the Phillies dropped their last three games to the Mets. Despite that streak Philadelphia remains atop the NL East with a record of 48-and-42. The Cards carry a 50-and-40 record into tonight's action, good for second place in the NL Central Division, three-and-a-half games behind the Cubs.
>>Cubs Welcome Reds
(Chicago, IL) -- The Cubs open a six-game homestand with the first-of-three games against the Cincinnati Reds. Chicago is a baseball-best 23 games above .500 at home. They are 33-and-10 at Wrigley Field and lead the National League with an overall mark of 53-and-36. Heading into tonight's matchup, Lou Piniella's team has scored 102 more runs than their opponents.
>>Sox Hit The Road
(Kansas City, MO) -- The White Sox open a three-game series in Kansas City tonight. The Sox have won eight of their last 10 games to maintain a one-and-a-half game lead over Minnesota for the top spot in the AL Central. Despite being 14 games above .500 overall, Chicago is only 19-and-24 away from home.
